StoneGuard® installation in NY, NJ, and eastern PA

What StoneGuard protects, what it looks like, and what to expect.

StoneGuard is a removable, professional-only film engineered for stone. It is not an impregnating sealer and it is not a bonded anti-etch coating. M&T installs the film as a replaceable wear layer so daily use reaches the film before it reaches the covered stone.

Protection and finish

Covered surface
Stain-proof and etch-proof where the StoneGuard film is installed.
Clear finish
Designed for polished stone and a higher-gloss appearance.
Satin finish
Designed for honed or matte stone and a lower-sheen appearance.
Scratch behavior
Scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof. Knives, sharp tools, and dragged heavy objects can mark the replaceable film.
Replacement
If a section becomes damaged or worn, the film can be removed and replaced without refinishing the protected stone underneath.

Seams, edges, bubbles, and water

Will there be a seam?

We plan each surface as one piece where the layout and available material size allow. Long runs, complex shapes, and some islands may require a seam. We review likely seam and edge locations before installation rather than promise an invisible result in every layout.

Can water get underneath?

The film is liquid-impermeable on the covered top surface, but it does not wrap every exposed countertop edge. Repeated standing water around sinks or edges can reach unfilmed stone or contribute to edge lifting. M&T applies liquid sealer to unfilmed edges as part of the standard package. Promptly wipe water that collects at an edge.

What about bubbles or lifting?

Natural bubbling and delamination are covered categories under the manufacturer's Limited Lifetime Warranty. Damage caused by outside force, normal wear, misuse, or repeated edge soaking is different. If something changes after installation, send M&T photos so we can identify the cause and the correct remedy.

Cost and included service

Current installation pricing is $35 per square foot. Typical residential projects are about $2,350 to $3,000. The exact total depends on measured area, layout, finish, material use, and preparation needs.

Film, bonded coating, or sealer?

ApproachWhat it isEtch protectionRenewal or damage response
StoneGuard filmRemovable physical barrier installed over the stone.Prevents etching where intact film covers the surface. The affected film section can be removed and replaced.
Bonded anti-etch coatingA professionally applied coating bonded to the stone. M&T does not install this on countertops.Designed to resist etching while the coating remains intact.Repair or renewal can require sanding, honing, polishing, or other restoration work.
Impregnating sealerLiquid treatment absorbed into the stone.Does not stop acid etching.Requires periodic maintenance or reapplication based on the product and use.

How M&T handles the decision

  1. Identify the stone, finish, surfaces, and existing damage.
  2. Review Clear and Satin against the actual stone and lighting.
  3. Measure the surface and explain likely seams, edges, preparation, and exclusions.
  4. Provide a written quote before scheduling.
  5. Install, inspect the finish, and leave the care and warranty information.
