StoneGuard® buyer guide

Direct answers before you protect your stone.

Will StoneGuard change how my countertop looks?

Clear is designed for polished stone. Satin is designed for honed or matte stone. Both can change how color, depth, or sheen reads in a room, so M&T reviews the finish against your actual stone before installation.

Will seams or edges be visible?

We use one piece where possible. Some long or complex surfaces require a seam, and every installation has exposed boundaries where the film ends. We explain likely locations before the work begins.

Can water get under the film?

The covered top surface blocks liquid. Film does not wrap every exposed edge, so repeated standing water around sinks or edges can reach unfilmed stone or contribute to lifting. Edge sealer is included, and edge spills should be wiped promptly.

Can StoneGuard scratch?

Yes. It is scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof. The film is the replaceable wear layer, but knives and sharp or heavy objects can still mark it. Use cutting boards and avoid dragging objects.

What does the warranty cover?

The manufacturer's Limited Lifetime Warranty includes specified product issues such as natural bubbling, fading, discoloration, and natural delamination. Normal wear, scratches, external damage, misuse, and edge-related moisture are not the same as a product defect. The written warranty controls the final coverage decision.

How much does installation cost?

Current M&T pricing is $35 per square foot. Typical residential installations are about $2,350 to $3,000. Layout, finish, material use, preparation, and measured area determine the written quote.

How long will it look new?

There is no honest universal replacement interval. Wear depends on how the surface is used and cared for. M&T includes an annual inspection, and damaged or worn sections can be replaced without refinishing the protected stone underneath.

How is this different from an anti-etch coating?

StoneGuard is removable film. A countertop anti-etch coating is bonded to the surface and may require restoration work to repair, renew, or remove. M&T installs StoneGuard and does not install bonded anti-etch coatings on countertops.
